Genotypic, phenotypic and environmental correlations were estimated for all possible pairs among eleven characters of tomatoes. Fifteen treatments including five parents and ten hybrids of Instituto Agronômico (IAC) tomato breeding program were evaluated using a randomized complete block experimental design, with tree replications in Itatiba, São Paulo state, Brazil, during 2005/2006. The following traits were evaluated: fruit yield per plant (FP), fruit number per plant (FN), average fruit weight (FW), cluster number per plant (CN), fruit number per cluster (FC), number of locules per fruit (NL), fruit length (FL), fruit width (WI), fruit wall thickness (FT), total soluble solids (SS), and total titratable acidity (TA). The genotypic (rG), phenotypic (rF)... |

ABSTRACT This study was performed to introduce the allele Bush of commercial cultivars with a bush growth habit into Cucurbita moschata accessions and select the best crossings for production potential and standard fruit shape “Menina Brasileira” through general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA). To determine GCA and SCA, a partial diallel analysis was performed. The parental group (group I) consisted of two cultivars containing the dwarfism bush gene, and the second group (Group II), formed by five accessions of UFV Vegetable Germplasm Bank, with high production potential and fruit shape “Menina Brasileira”. We evaluated: productivity (PROD), fruit shape (FORM), growth rate until the 50th day after transplanting (CRESC), and... |

The study aimed to assess the reaction to Tomato yellow vein streak virus (ToYVSV) of determinate-growth tomato breeding lines of the Instituto Agronomico de Campinas (Campinas Agronomic Institute) germplasm collection and to select resistant plants. The experiment was carried out from August 2008 to February 2009 in greenhouse conditions. The geminivirus isolate used was collected in a tomato commercial field, in Sumaré, São Paulo State, Brazil. The experimental design was completely ramdomized blocks, with 25 treatments, four replications, and 30-plant plots. Virus transmission was carried out in cages containing viruliferous whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci B biotype). Plant reaction to the pathogen was evaluated by means of the percentage of symptomless... |
